You can claim the cost of submission as a discount against the purchase of publications from our online shop using the discount code FNFP2026 at checkout.
Why are we charging for submissions? We would rather have kept our Open Calls free as a point of principle but we have been overwhelmed by the volume of submissions (including AI-generated submissions) which has made this impossible. Most of the reading and organising for our Open Calls is done in an unpaid voluntary capacity. We really enjoy going through all the work we receive and do so with great interest, but it takes a lot of time. We want to encourage submissions from those with a genuine interest in the publication and a familiarity with past issues. We don’t want to exclude anyone from submitting due to lack of funds and we offer a concession code to all those who are unable to pay.
If you are unwaged or struggle to cover basic costs of living please email [email protected] for a submission fee waiver. Please note that this is not a student discount.
If you are able to, please consider paying the fee. We are a registered charity run primarily on volunteer time and goodwill.
